WE NEED YOUR HELP!
Please renew your membership now .. thank you for your continuing
support
The Society’s mission is to promote in citizens
of all ages an interest and knowledge of past area events and people,
instilling a sense of pride and cultural heritage. We invite you to
re-join the growing number of Historical Society members who delight
in learning more about the region’s extensive and fascinating
past. Our members engage in a variety of public exhibits and programs,
all sharing in the rich history of our past.
Your support helps the Historical Society’s mission
every day; whether it is through access to rare books, manuscripts
and objects, or through Living History and the other education programs
we provide. The 8-Square School Social, the Historic Homes Tour &
Quilt Show, the Antiques Show and the Artists Invitational Exhibition
are just some of the many community events that we coordinate annually.
The Museum is a wonderful repository for artifacts
and family heirlooms that have, primarily, been made in or used in
and around Muncy. With its own history, the Clapp House provides an
excellent backdrop, complimenting the rich collections known as “pieces
of Muncy’s past.” The meeting room is multi-functional,
perfect for public programs and special receptions. Its research library
is one of the most extensive and comprehensive for genealogical information
and assistance. Our second site is the fully-restored “8-Square,”
a one room schoolhouse built in 1872 where classroom instruction is
recreated through an active Living History program. The circa 1860s
Packet Boat, the reconstructed passenger vessel that once traveled
Pennsylvania’s canal system, and the Muncy Heritage Park and
Nature Trail Project, support our education venue and are helping
to reconnect Muncy to its Susquehanna River heritage.
Won’t you help us continue our mission by renewing
your membership? Your support directly affects the success of your
community museum. Membership dollars are the most important source
of our annual income to help us maintain and sustain the Society’s
historically rich holdings. Membership dues also help us publish the
Now and Then, the Society’s vehicle for providing a written
account of the history and heritage of the West Branch Valley. The
Now and Then, published three times a year, is a nationally recognized
historical journal that has been published, every now and then, since
1868.
As a member there are many benefits to enjoy: special
exhibits from private and MHSMH collections; subscription to the Now
and Then; free admission to the museum, library & archives; invitations
to exhibits and special membership events; year-round use of the MHSMH
research library; informative lectures, seminars and living history
performances; volunteer opportunities; day trips and history walks;
and the opportunity to financially support the preservation of our
rich heritage. Please help by re-joining today. Our local history
is a legacy for future generations.
