The Muncy Historical Society (MHS) is an all-volunteer not-for-profit organization founded in 1936, which, through partnerships, cultivates among its many audiences a broad appreciation and awareness of our past while inspiring learning through engaging and unique experiences. Our volunteers work to share, preserve, and celebrate this unique community by focusing on history, the arts, and educational programs. The mission is to promote an interest and knowledge of past area events and people in citizens of all ages, instilling a sense of community pride and cultural heritage.

Your support will directly affect the success of your community museum. Membership dollars are an important source of annual income – a portion of the operating expenses for maintenance of the Society building and our community projects. The Museum is a wonderful repository for artifacts and family heirlooms that have primarily been made in or used in and around Muncy. Membership dues also help us publish the Now and Then, the Society’s vehicle for providing a written account of the history and heritage of the West Branch Valley. The Now and Then, a nationally recognized historical journal, has been published “every now and then” since 1868. The meeting room is multi-functional, perfect for public programs and special receptions, and the research library is one of the most extensive and comprehensive for genealogical information and assistance.

As a member, there are many benefits to enjoy: special exhibits from private and MHSMH collections; subscription to the Now and Then; free admission to the museum, library & archives; invitations to exhibits and special membership events; year-round use of the MHSMH research library; informative lectures, seminars, and living history performances; volunteer opportunities; day trips and history walks; and the opportunity to financially support the preservation of our rich heritage.
Your membership will contribute greatly to our capacity to serve our mission, to continue our programming and to maintain the Society’s holdings. Memberships help MHS:
- Keep MHS’ museum free to members and reasonable to the public.
- Preserve our significant collection of historic documents, photographs, and artifacts;
- Mount special exhibits on a regular basis;
- Provide historical research support and services;
- Offer meaningful free educational programs and events for adults and children; and
- Provide outreach and community involvement.
We are pleased to report that this is the 19th year we have maintained our annual membership dues levels.
